Rurouni Kenshin (るろうに剣心) - The Movie

Rurouni Kenshin's Biography:

Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story, also known as Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai X, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The fictional setting takes place during the early Meiji period in Japan. It was published in 1996 and later evolved into anime series in USA, 2006.

Recently, it moves to make into a film, which is going to be released on 25 Aug 2012 at Tokyo, Japan.

Apart of many things that I am going to do during the holiday, this movie is a "MUST-WATCH" movie of the month. Although there are many other upcoming exciting movies in the market, but this one is my favorite. After watching the trailer, I am very excited about the release as some cut-scenes look alike in the anime / manga series. Even though I can't see it here in Singapore, I am still looking forward to watch it online during the holiday.

As for things that I am going to do in holiday - will not be reveal here as I haven't completed them. Best to keep them as "secrets" for now (LOL) !!

[Just be sure to stay tune for the rest of my blog posts after 28 Aug ~_~]

Entertainment Marketing Workshop

My friend, Jinan and I went to this workshop on Entertainment Marketing and Promotion, which was organized by the agency (CASS). Our lecturer, Ms Dora Chua helped us to register to it where we got a chance to expose to a whole area of marketing techniques that are very different from what we learnt in Year 1: Social media Marketing. The duration of the workshop lasted for 5 days, in which we need to prepare a marketing plan and presented in the 5th day.

Before the first lesson, we were called back by the agency's person-in-charge: Ms Pam Fang Ruiting. She conducted a briefing to us, so as to prepare ourselves to face the professor and other necessary rules and regulation in the workshop. She differentiated both of us into 2 separate groups, so as to give us a chance to work with new people and gain good teamwork experience.

Professor's Bio
The professor who taught us the entertainment marketing is Prof Cory O Connor. He worked for Watt Disney for 20 years and another movie company for another 20 years as the President of Marketing and Promotions. After that, he retired and is now working as a university professor 5 years ago till now.

Here are the group photos after our presentation on the 5th Day of the workshop:

Throughout the 5 days of the professor's teaching about Entertainment Marketing, Jinan and I learnt a lot from him. We also made some new friends with the students from the agency and as well as Prof Cory himself in classroom and in twitter. We were very grateful of what we learnt from them and hoped that we could go to the agency again to learn new things. :-)

NEGC 2012

What and Why is NEGC?

NEGC stands for National Education Gaming Competition and it is the first formal gaming competition that Nexus, MINDEF in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is organizing to engage youths.

The NEGC is a fun and engaging way for youths to discover what the Third Generation SAF is about. It also allows youths, especially the boys, to learn about defense and National Service before enlistment.

Virtual Battle-space 2 (VBS2) is the official game used in NEGC. It is a PC-based virtual simulation training software used to train soldiers in the SAF (the game-play is similar to counter-strike but with add-ons such as stamina system and real-time responsive Multi-player platform).

SP DMIT - Team 1

We had 20 players (students from different diploma in DMIT) altogether and the lecturer in-charge separated us into 2 teams - Team 1 and Team 2. I was belong to Team 1 (Team Marauders).

The team leader, Danny Lim Deyuan aka Boey managed the team and gave us the roles, according to our interest and strength in the game. Not only that, the friends who are in the same class as him also gave us (from Year 1 to Year 2) valuable advice as well.

In the process, we managed to defeat a lot of teams from secondary schools. But, in the end, we lost to NYP (who is the current champion). However, we somehow reached to Top 16 and received the cheque of $500 & a Top 16 trophy.

As a team, even though we lost, it is the friendship and cooperation that each member made and contribute in the end - which is the most precious one.

**\_/** - The Last Samurai in Christmas - **\_/**

1. Reasons of why I chose it

My theme for this assignment is “The Last Samurai in Christmas”.

The reasons of why I chose it are:

Not many people in the world would ever think of putting a real samurai in a winter environment during Merry Christmas event, because I found out from the net that there are not much of them using this kind of theme. Therefore, it makes my theme sounds unique.

Singapore is a country with no seasons in every year. Either raining or hot and sunny, you will not able to see it snow naturally, except the man-made ones. Therefore, I chose winter as the mode of the theme to imagine that Singapore may snow one day.

I use my father as the main character of the theme (the samurai who is holding a blade in the foreground of the picture) because he has dark skin, old and mature; and has a ‘good’ body.

2. Photoshop skills that are used in creating the theme

The skills and tools that are used in the picture:

Starting from the background, the clouds and skies was taken using a digital camera (personal). I transformed its size that can totally fit in to the whole picture. Then I used brush tools – snowflakes and duplicated 2 layers to make the picture more colorful and nice.

For the mid-ground, the candy houses and the Christmas trees were taken at the entrance of Lot1 shopping center near the bus-stop. In the photoshop, I used quick tool selection to cut the picture from the source; used the dodge tool to make the bricks of the house to brighter colours; used the burn tool to make the inner curve bricks of the house darker and re-size it until they fitted into the picture. I also duplicated 2 layers for the Christmas trees to hold the standing background for the candy house.

For the foreground, I focused a lot of layers for the main character. I took the picture of my father holding my samurai umbrella (bought in Jurong West Shopping Centre) in a stance of defensive mode with upper body topless. I used the burn tool to make my father to look darker and even colour his hair from white to black.

The broadsword was taken at a shop in Orchard underground selling all kinds of weapon display and I told the owner to let me pictured one of their products. I used the pen tool selection to cut out the blade and replaced it onto the umbrella portion.  In addition, I used the brushes to help decorating the blade so that the blade will be able to show a snowy smoke aura effect.

For the bracer accessory and the hat, I used the 3D objects that are already in the Photoshop tools, apart from the source folder. Lastly, I used the text tool to apply for the theme title and customize it until it looked like it was been slipped into the blade.

3. Obstacles that I faced when creating my collage

The difficulties that I faced during the process of my montage:
Colour -> I found it difficult when matching the colours with different kinds of designs for each layer of the picture.

Not-related pictures -> Sometimes, the pictures that I shot may not be able to fit into my theme and thus wasting my time and brain juice to think of suitable pictures. This is because some pictures can only be taken in special locations that people in Singapore hardly know.

Limited Photoshop skills -> Apart from the skills that are taught by Mr Bradley, I know nothing of other techniques and tools. Combining the pictures together was easy, but the designing of it was the most difficult for me as I am not good at it.

This is my dvde (Digital Visual Design) collage that I designed last year of Sem 2. I scored A for this assignment !! :D

All the photo that I took in order to combine them into a collage !!

This is the collage that i made myself using Photoshop last year.

The Avengers 2 . . . !?

Everyone would have watched The Avengers this year recently. The story line, graphics, sound and etc are extremely awesome and spectacular.

On this post, i'll like to share everyone that I had found from YouTube: The Avengers (in animation) that some of the YouTubers are going to rumor it as "The Avengers 2 - pre-promotional trailer". This is because Spider-man was somewhat involved in this video instead of those superheroes that we saw in the movie.

Enjoy !!

Technology Addictions

This video is about addictions, mainly to technology, but it's open to various interpretations.

Years ago the idea behind technology was to give people more free time from work and give us a better life. So nowadays, with the possibility for the majority of people to have access to electronics and hi tech, is it true that we have more spare time and a better quality of life? Or have we become addicted to the technology that surrounds us everyday and it has suck us into it?

But humans get addicted really easily to a lot of things in life and this video is also a metaphor about addictions in general, about being manipulated without even realizing it or without reacting.
